there were floors made of doors and windows. big gaps, shaker blue. he was never inside the place he lived, always on the fire escape. his hand on my side, circling. his voice on the phone, “i want to grow tired of something, but it won’t be you.” always a puzzle to get to him. i had to leap.

we’re pretty lucky to have both of you in our lives.
